Interview with Connor Curry
For this Quarterback Spotlight, we chose to highlight Connor Curry because as a young Quarterback, he chose to focus on the techniques, mechanics and fundamentals necessary to play the Quarterback position. Many youth Quarterbacks are thrust into the position because they are fast, or can throw the ball farther than the other players. This plan, too often, leaves a young Quarterback with little to rely on aside from speed and whatever technique which is allowed by their muscle memory. Unfortunately, with age and the increased skill of the other players on the field, that is not always enough.
Connor started attending Complete QB Camps as a 5th grader and strives to improve as a Quarterback, daily. The effort he puts forth during Camp and througout the off-season, continues during the football season. Beginning specialized training at a young age allowed Connor to grow, as a Quarterback, with some key skills and techniques necessary to successfully play the position.
As a 7th grader, Conner had a total of 2,010 all-purpose yards and 40 TDs and was chosen to play in the Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl. Combining those facts with the work Connor puts in, made him the natural choice for our first Quarterback Spotlight on a youth QB.
The pursuit of perfection is useless for a Quarterback, there is no such thing. However, sound fundamentals, throwing techniques and proper mechanics, are all worthwhile and achievable goals. Why not start before you get to high school and find out how hard muscle memory is to forget?
